Some people have expressed an interest in or discussed having volunteer firefighters serving
with the Elizabeth Township Fire and EMS Department. The department will accept people
willing to serve in a volunteer capacity.
To serve as a volunteer with the Elizabeth Township Fire Department you must complete a fire
department application, be a resident of or closely bordering our township, at least eighteen
(18) years of age, be at least a high school graduate, have a valid Ohio driver’s license, show
proof of a recent acceptable physical examination, be willing to submit to a background check,
and undergo an interview with the Fire Chief and Fire Department Administrator.
If you are already trained and registered with the State of Ohio to the volunteer firefighter level
or above, excellent. If not, you would need to complete a volunteer awareness level course that
meets the Ohio Administrative Code requirements for volunteer firefighters.
The Ohio Fire Academy is offering a volunteer firefighter awareness class at the Fire Academy in
Reynoldsburg, OH. This is a two-consecutive weekend class taking place in August. There are no
course fees, and tuition, meals, course materials, and dormitories are provided free of charge.
You would be responsible for your travel costs. Here's more information about the training event.
